Janiece L. Pompa, Ph.D. President, Janiece L. Pompa, Ph.D., Inc. Clinical Professor, University of Utah Department of Educational Psychology Director, University of Utah Psychoeducational Clinic Dr. Janiece Pompa is a licensed clinical psychologist who graduated from Brigham Young University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in Spanish-speaking American Studies. She graduated from Michigan State University with an M.A. in 1978 and Ph.D. in 1983 in Clinical Psychology, with a minor in neuropsychology. Dr. Pompa has been licensed as a psychologist in Utah since 1984, and has been president of the corporation Janiece L. Pompa, Ph.D., Inc., through which she conducts psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, psychotherapy, and consultations to mental health facilities and public agencies. Dr. Pompa has over 20 years of experience providing psychotherapy and assessment services to children, adolescents and adults. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units with all age groups, with an emphasis in treating adolescents. Dr. Pompa served as the Director of Psychology at both LDS Hospital, the leading medical facility in Utah, and University Neuropsychiatric Institute, the premier psychiatric hospital in Utah. She has also worked in wilderness programs and wrote her dissertation on the psychological effects of a wilderness program on teenagers. In addition to providing clinical services in private practice, Dr. Pompa has been a member of the clinical faculty in the departments of Educational Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Utah for almost 20 years. She currently teaches and supervises psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessment with graduate students in psychology and educational psychology, and supervises other psychologists in the community. She has been Director of the University of Utah’s Psychoeducational Clinic for the past 8 years, serving the children and adolescents of the Intermountain West. Dr. Pompa has published numerous articles and book chapters pertaining to the assessment and treatment of children with brain injuries and other neurologic disorders. Dr. Pompa is also licensed as a school psychologist in Utah, and works in the schools performing diagnostic assessments and interventions for children with behavior problems. As a result, she is familiar with state and federal special education law, classification and placement issues for children with psychological, emotional and/or cognitive challenges. Dr. Pompa is a member of the American Psychological Association, and a board member of both the Utah Psychological Association and the Utah Association of School Psychologists. She also belongs to the National Academy of Neuropsychology and the International Neuropsychological Society. Dr. Pompa’s interests and areas of expertise include the treatment and assessment of the following groups: children and adolescents; individuals with medical and neurological problems, including learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and head injury; gay and lesbian adolescents; and minority children and adolescents, especially those who are English language learners. Dr. Pompa is well-known in the psychological community for her wide range of expertise in many areas of professional practice, knowledge of testing and assessment practices, and service to children and adolescents of ethnic and gender minority in Salt Lake City. She is also mom to a 9-year-old son and future skateboard champion! |
